Current KA 4 Junior Kart Racing Champion Alex Ninovic has stepped up to contest the KA3 Senior Unrestricted class in 2022. Round 1 of the Australian Kart Racing Championship (58) entries for KA 3 Senior Unrestricted fought it out for national title points.
Five times Australian KA 3 Senior Unrestricted Champion James Sera was entered, along with many highly talented Kart stars from around the country. Sydney based AN Racing Team of father and son, Sash and Alex Ninovic used the lead up to this event traveling to Canberra, Lithgow and Melbourne for test and tune track days. “We did multiple days to get a read on our new PCR Kart which is bigger and heavier” said Alex. All this effort was rewarded with Alex Ninovic qualifying at the top of the time sheets in 40.807.
Still 14 years of age, Ninovic Jnr went on to take victory in all four (4) heats setting up a dream run to start the 20 lap final off pole position.
On the opening lap, current National KA 3 Senior Unrestricted Champion Jace Matthews made an ambitious move pushing Ninovic wide, the impact damaging Alex’s PCR Kart steering. Fighting back from third place, Ninovic Jnr clawed his way to cross the finish line a close second to race winner, Jai Brown. Alex said “My dad and I have put in a lot of testing, to top qualify, win four (4) heat races, finish second in the 20 lap final with bent steering was amazing.”
Alex Ninovic now leads the KA 3 Senior Unrestricted class in the SP Tools Australian Kart Championdship.
Note: Post race Jace Matthews was disqualified.
Next round is South Australia at the Bolivar Circuit 15,16,17th April 2022.
